RAMALLAH, January 21, 2025 (WAFA) – A Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) official Tuesday discussed with an EU diplomat preparations to restart a monitoring mission to Rafah after a ceasefire agreement to end Israel's genocidal aggression on Gaza.
Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee, Hussein al-Sheikh, met with Nataliya Apostolova, head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah), at his office in Ramallah.
During the meeting, they discussed arrangements to redeploy the monitoring mission and pave the way for the Palestinian Authority to return to the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem border crossings.
Meanwhile, al-Sheikh held a meeting with the new Brazilian ambassador to Palestine, João Marcelo Soares, and briefed him on the recent developments in the Palestinian territories, with focus on the Israeli violations and tightened movement restrictions in the West Bank.
He also briefed him on the Palestinian and international efforts to provide relief aid to Gaza and ensure the territorial integrity of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as a prelude to establish the independent State of Palestine.
Ambassador Soares affirmed his country’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people’s rights, including the right to self-determination and the right to establish their own independent state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on international law and the UN resolutions.
