RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 29, 2024 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the official spokesperson for President Mahmoud Abbas, said today that the Israeli security cabinet’s legalization of five settlement outposts and plans to build thousands of new settlement units in the West Bank are part of Israel's full-fledged war against the Palestinian people, their land, and their holy sites.
Abu Rudeineh emphasized that all Israeli decisions are rejected and condemned, emphasizing that they do not legitimize settlements. He reiterated that the international community has affirmed the illegality of settlements and called for their removal from all Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
“The extremist Israeli government's efforts to prevent the realization of a Palestinian state will fail. Israel challenges the will of the international community with blind U.S. support through arms, money, and political cover, enabling its continued crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people,” the presidential spokesman stated.
Abu Rudeineh held the responsibility for these Israeli decisions squarely on the U.S. administration, “which has ignited the region and pushed matters toward an all-out explosion.”
He demanded immediate action to compel Israel to cease its campaign of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and to halt its crimes and colonization.
The spokesperson reaffirmed that “the extremist Israeli government's decisions will not succeed in imposing a new reality on the ground,” emphasizing that “there will be no security or stability without the establishment of a Palestinian state free from colonization and colonists.”
Abu Rudeineh called on the United Nations Security Council to implement Resolution 2334, adopted on December 23, 2016, which demands that Israel, the occupying power, cease settlement activities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and emphasizes the illegality of Israel's establishment of settlements on occupied land since 1967.
