Egyptian President, Emir of Kuwait stress necessity of reaching immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza

CAIRO, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 (WAFA) - Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, stressed today the necessity of reaching an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

This came during the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the summit between the Egyptian President and the Emir of Kuwait, which was held Tuesday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Al-Sisi and Al-Sabah stressed the necessity of facilitating safe, adequate and sustainable access to humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the latest of which is Resolution No. 2720, including the establishment of a UN mechanism inside the Gaza Strip to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid.

They also affirmed their rejection of Israel's continuation of its military operations, including the possible expansion of military operations to the city of Rafah, warning of the dire humanitarian consequences that would result from such a step.

The two leaders stressed the danger of Israeli practices that would expand the conflict and threaten the security and stability of the region and international security and peace.

They stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in settling the Palestinian issue by implementing the two-state solution and embodying the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the relevant international decisions.

Sisi and al-Sabah expressed their categorical rejection and condemnation of all attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue. They also expressed their utmost rejection of Israel's violations of international law and international humanitarian law and all attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

They also affirmed their adherence to the right of return for Palestinian refugees and UN General Assembly Resolution No. 194, stressing the importance of the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

They further rejected the deliberate targeting of the UN relief agency and the importance of supporting its budget.
