CAIRO, Monday, October 23, 2023 (WAFA) – The head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, said today that Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are exposed to a war of genocide in the truest sense of the word, especially what Palestinian journalists are exposed to as they convey the truth.
Abu Bakr made the statements in a joint press conference with the head of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, Khaled El Balshy, held at the Syndicate’s headquarters in Cairo.
Abu Bakr highlighted the danger of the ‘disinformation war’ led by Israel, including forgery and misleading lies, affirming that this requires publishing real Palestinian content and airing the painful clips showing what the Palestinian people are exposed to, instead of the lies promoted by Israel. ".
“Many journalists, while reporting from hospitals, discover that they are photographing the corpses of their families. We are facing tremendous steadfastness that no human being can bear,” he added.
He said that since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7th, 18 journalists have been killed and 30 others were injured, in addition to 50 media institutions that were completely destroyed and others damaged.
He said 22 local radio stations in Gaza have stopped working, either due to bombing or lack of fuel and electricity, Abu Bakr noted.
He explained that the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has submitted official complaints to the International Criminal Court regarding the killing of journalists, calling on international organizations and civil society to intervene to prevent the targeting of journalists during any Israeli ground attack that may occur in the Gaza Strip.
He also called on the Western media to stop siding with the “executioner” [the Israeli occupation] and to act with impartiality and fairness when dealing with the massacres and genocide taking place against the Palestinian people.
For his part, al-Balshi affirmed the solidarity of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate with journalists in Palestine, especially news broadcasters who are subjected to the most heinous crimes faced by journalists.
He called for the necessity of holding perpetrators of crimes against journalists accountable as they are complete war crimes.
Al-Balshi also affirmed the Egyptian Syndicate's endeavor to provide all means of support to colleagues in occupied Palestine, stressing that he addressed unions, journalists' unions, and institutions defending international press freedom regarding the violations committed by the occupation, calling for their intervention to protect Palestinian journalists.
He announced the start of receiving donations starts tomorrow, be it medical supplies, medicines, relief supplies, or food supplies to be sent to the Gaza Strip immediately.
