RAMALLAH, Monday, January 2, 2023 (WAFA) – Jewish fanatic groups submitted demands to the Israeli police commissioner for 11 changes in the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem that would allow them to perform Jewish rituals inside the Muslim holy compound, as reported on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story headline that the so-called Temple Mount groups have submitted 11 requests to the chief of Israeli police regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Quds daily said that if their requests are accepted, it means a blow to the decades-long status quo that states that only Muslims can perform prayers at Al-Aqsa.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said racist Israeli cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir intends to break into Al-Aqsa Mosque sometime this week and that he asked the police to coordinate his storming of the Muslim holy site on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In addition, al-Quds said that a new settlement outpost was set up west of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank and quoted an Israeli lawmaker saying the occupation of the West Bank should continue.
Al-Ayyam said the government of Benjamin Netanyahu intends to give legal status to dozens of illegal settlement outposts throughout the occupied territories, as the Israeli minister of housing says that a solution to the housing crisis in Israel is partly found in the West Bank in reference to building more illegal settlements.
It said, quoting the Israeli Channel 13 TV station, that Israel intends to punish the Palestinian Authority, including withdrawing the VIP cards from top officials, in retaliation for pursuing Israel in the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the Fatah celebrations in Lebanon of the launch of the armed Palestinian resistance.
It also said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki attended, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, the swearing-in ceremony for Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
The newspapers also reported on the war in Ukraine.
