Foreign Minister welcomes UNESCO adoption of two resolutions in favor of Palestine

PARIS, Wednesday, October 12, 2022 (WAFA) - Foreign Minister Riyad Malki welcomed UNESCO’s adoption today of two resolutions related to Palestine.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board unanimously adopted in its 215th session two resolutions in favor of Palestine, namely "occupied Palestine" and "cultural and educational institutions", during the 215th session of its Executive Council held in the French capital Paris.

Malki stressed that the two decisions centered on Palestinian national issues such as the capital, Jerusalem, the issue of the reconstruction of Gaza, and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, in addition to the importance of sending an exploratory mission to occupied Jerusalem and its walls.

They considered that the protection of heritage sites, tangible and intangible Palestinian heritage, is an international responsibility to preserve them as they are currently, purely Palestinian, and preserve them from destruction, distortion and forgery, including not giving names to Palestinian sites based on false narratives and in a manner that threatens the current legal and historical status of Jerusalem and the status of the Palestinian territories.
