France urges Israel to arrest colonists responsible for attack on diplomats in al-Taybeh

PARIS, October 18, 2026 (WAFA) — France on Sunday urged Israel to arrest those responsible for an attack on diplomats in the Palestinian village of al-Taybeh, northeast of Ramallah, and bring them to justice.

In a statement issued on Sunday, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux said France strongly condemned the attack by violent Israeli colonists against the French mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries in al-Taybeh.

Representatives of several diplomatic missions, including the French Consul General in Jerusalem and his Belgian and Polish counterparts, were also targeted and harassed during the attack, he said. France expressed its support and solidarity with them and reaffirmed its firm commitment to their mission.

Confavreux stressed that Israeli authorities must take all necessary measures to end such acts of intimidation and ensure the security of civilians and diplomatic missions, in accordance with Israel’s obligations under international law.

France also reiterated its condemnation of Israeli settlement policy, describing it as contrary to international law, a serious violation of Palestinian rights, a threat to stability in the occupied West Bank and an obstacle to the two-state solution.
