Vice President al-Sheikh welcomes European Council’s positions on the need to halt colonization expansion

RAMALLAH, October 17, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh welcomed the positions adopted by the European Council at its recent summit, which underscored the necessity of halting settlement expansion, withdrawing the construction tenders for the “E1 area”, releasing Palestinian withheld clearance revenues, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

In a post on X, the vice president said, “This European stance—which upholds international law and the rights of the Palestinian people—is highly appreciated. And I emphasize the necessity of translating these positions into practical, effective steps.”

He continued, “Such actions would contribute to ending the occupation and realizing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.”

The vice president expressed appreciation for the ongoing European support for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority, as well as the support provided for reform efforts and the strengthening of national institutions, all of which, he stressed, contribute to consolidating stability and fulfilling the aspirations of our people.
