UN Special Coordinator calls for de-escalation of violence in West Bank

NEW YORK, Friday, September 16, 2022 (WAFA) – United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, said today he was gravely concerned by the deteriorating security situation and the unacceptable daily loss of life in the West Bank, calling for an immediate de-escalation of violence.

Wennesland's statement comes only a day after the Israeli occupation forces killed a 17-year-old Palestinian teenager during an Israeli attack on the village of Kafr Dan, near Jenin.

"Gravely concerned by the deteriorating security situation & the unacceptable daily loss of life in the West Bank. There can be no winners if the current violence continues to escalate. Civilians continue to pay the price for political failure," he said in a tweet.

He added, "Violence and use of force only perpetuate the crisis and must cease. We are engaging with all concerned to immediately reduce tensions. Political and community leaders on all sides must act now and engage in good faith through dialogue to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control."
