RAMALLAH, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 (WAFA) – News about the report by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, which said that the continued occupation by Israel of Palestinian territory and discrimination against Palestinians are the key root cause of the recurrent tensions, instability, and protraction of conflict in the region, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies made this topic their main front-page story while the third daily, al-Ayyam, placed it lower on the page, highlighting instead news about the Israeli incursions and settlement activities in the West Bank, which was as its main front-page story.
This topic was also highlighted on the front page of the other two dailies.
Al-Quds said that Jewish extremists are mobilizing efforts to hold a conference on applying Israeli law to the illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Al-Ayyam said, quoting settlements expert Khalil Toufakji that Israel has plans to build 1208 new settlement housing units in the West Bank.
It said European Union Heads of Mission and representatives, and like-minded countries visited residents in Wadi Qaddoum, part of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem, where the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem plans to demolish Palestinian homes, displacing 74 residents, including 42 children.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Jewish extremists attacked the Greek Orthodox Chapel and Garden on Mount Zion in occupied East Jerusalem, vandalizing its property and graves.
It said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh discussed with visiting German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Energy Robert Habeck the political situation in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli escalation.
It talked about a campaign in the United States to get PayPal company to provide services to the Palestinians in the West Bank and stop this service to the settlers.
The paper also said the Italian president bestowed on Health Minister Mai Alkaila the Order of the Star of Italy medal during ceremonies held at the Italian Consulate General in Jerusalem.
