RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 17, 2022 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas discussed during a telephone call today with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the latest developments and the dangerous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian territories, particularly Jerusalem.
They also discussed Israel’s incessant escalations at the al-Aqsa mosque and violation of the freedom of worship at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
President Abbas cautioned against the seriousness of the repeated attacks on al-Aqsa mosque and desecration of the holy month of Ramadan, which he stressed cannot be tolerated.
He called on the international community to promptly intervene to stop the Israeli aggression and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
He added that the Palestinian leadership is undertaking intensive consultations to take the necessary decisions required for the implementation of the recent decisions of the Palestinian Central Council.
For his part, the Turkish president affirmed his country’s position in support of the Palestinian people’s rights and rejection of Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, particularly against the al-Aqsa mosque and worshippers.
He noted that Turkey will contact the relevant parties to stop the Israeli escalation and ensure respect for the sanctity of holy sites.
