Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight barbaric Israeli police assault against worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque

RAMALLAH, Saturday, April 16, 2022 (WAFA) – The barbaric assault by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian Muslim worshippers at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

This story and pictures of the assault occupied most of the space on the front page of the three dailies.

Al-Quds daily said in its main front-page story that the Israeli occupation forces turned Jerusalem into a war zone on the second Friday of Ramadan.

Al-Ayyam daily talked about “the dawn storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque: 158 injured, more than 476 detained, and heavy destruction” in the barbaric assault at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, published the headline that said the morning call for prayer in Jerusalem calls for facing the challenge.

The three dailies published several stories related to the assault against one of Islam’s holiest sites on a Ramadan morning when thousands of worshippers are usually present at the mosque for the early morning prayer. They published statements of condemnation from all around the globe.

The papers also said the Israeli occupation army cracked down on several protests across the occupied West Bank leaving dozens of injuries.

They said a young Palestinian from Beita town, in the north of the West Bank, succumbed to his wounds sustained the day before from Israeli army gunfire.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Latin churches in Jerusalem celebrated Good Friday.

Al-Quds said in a report from its Washington correspondent that the US administration wants the Palestinians to join its regional cooperation plan, which includes Arab countries that normalized relations with Israel, but stressed that this will not be an alternative to Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.

The papers continued to report on the war in Ukraine and said that Russia threatens to intensify its bombardment of Kyiv in retaliation for the sinking of its warship, Moskva, in the Black Sea.
