RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 30, 2022 (WAFA) – News about the killing of five Israelis in a shooting operation near the Israeli city of Tel Aviv hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that five Israelis were Tuesday evening killed in a shooting operation in the city of Bnei Brak carried out by 27-year-old Palestinian youth Diaa Hamarsheh from the village of Ya'bad in the occupied West Bank district of Jenin. They added that Israeli police shot dead Hamarasheh following the operation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his condemnation of the killing of Israeli civilians, and stressed that the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians will only lead to further deterioration of the situation, especially as we are approaching the holy month of Ramadan and the Christian and Jewish holidays.
The dailies said that Israeli settlers set up a new outpost on land located near a Bedouin community in the al-Muarrajat area between the Ramallah and Jericho governorates.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh met at his office in Ramallah with Swedish Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation, Jenny Olsson, during which they discussed the latest political developments and promoting mutual cooperation, as reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Al-Quds said that Palestinians planned rallies in Arab towns in Israel to commemorate the 46th anniversary of Land Day and the protests on that day 46 years ago against the Israeli government takeover of Palestinian land and the brutal police crackdown that left six Palestinians dead.
The paper said that hundreds of Palestinian students protested at the Hebrew University campus in West Jerusalem after two Palestinian students were briefly detained by an off duty policeman/student for listening to Arabic music at the campus and ordered not to come to campus for the next few days.
