Weather forecast: Low pressure, cold front are set to hit region

RAMALLAH, March 24, 2022 (WAFA) – A low pressure and a polar cold front are set to affect the region today, causing temperature to plummet to 10°C below the seasonal average and paving the way to partly cloudy to cloudy and very cold conditions, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

 Sporadic torrential rain showers along with occasional thunderstorms and hail are expected on most districts. Active southwesterly to westerly wind blows in the day with occasional gusts, while active northwesterly wind blows in the night with occasional gusts. Sea waves are high.

Temperature in the capital, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 7°C and a low of 4°C and in Ramallah and Hebron a high of 6°C and a low of 3°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea, and the Jordan Valley temperature is expected to reach a high of 15°C and a low of 9°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 12°C and a low of 9°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Friday’s temperature is set to slightly rise with partly cloudy to cloudy and very cold conditions. Sporadic rain showers along with occasional thunderstorms and hail are still expected, with the rain tapering off towards the night.

A further slight rise of temperature is expected on Saturday, reaching 5°C below the seasonal average with partly cloudy and cold conditions in the mountains and relatively warm conditions in other districts in daytime. Very cold conditions are expected in the night.

Sunday’s temperature is set to further slightly rise and approach 3°C below the seasonal average with partly cloudy to clear and moderate to relatively warm conditions in the mountains and warm conditions in the Jordan Valley in daytime. Relatively cold to cold conditions are expected in nighttime.

PMD warns people against flash floods in flood-prone areas, slippery roads, gusty wind and low horizontal visibility.
