Newspaper Review: Three Palestinian killed by Israeli gunfire focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 02, 2022 (WAFA) – News about the three Palestinians who were killed by Israeli gunfire in the occupied West Bank hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Israeli forces Tuesday overnight gunned down two Palestinians and injured another in the northern West Bank refugee camp of Jenin. They confirmed that Israeli special forces driving Palestinian-registered vehicles sneaked their way into the refugee camp to conduct a detention operation.The special forces barged their way into several houses, occupied their roofs and opened fire at local youths protesting the raid, killing 22-year-old former prisoner Abdullah al-Husari and 18-year-old Shadi Najim.

The dailies added that Ammar Shafiq Abu Afifeh, from Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city, was shot by soldiers and killed at the entrance of Beit Fajjar, south of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas stressed the importance of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) continuing to provide services and emergency assistance to Palestine refugees, stressing that the refugee issue is one of the crucial and important issues for the Palestinian people, which must be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

The papers reported that  the Israeli occupation authorities demolished Palestinian-owned structures and razed lands in Sur Baher neighborhood, south of occupied Jerusalem.

They also noted that Israeli forces halted the construction of three Palestinian houses to the south of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

Palestinians demonstrated in various cities of the occupied territories in support of the just demands of jailed freedom fighters held in Israel for better prison conditions, according to Al-Hayat al-Jadida.

The dailies said that 19 people have died of coronavirus in Palestine in the last 24 hours while 836 new cases were recorded.
