Palestine logs nearly 1,600 COVID cases, 17 deaths

RAMALLAH, Friday, February 25, 2022 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 1,594 new cases of COVID-19, 17 deaths and 5,268 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24 hours.

These latest figures indicate a continuing downward trend in the fifth wave in Palestine which was fueled by the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19 in late December.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said 11 deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the West Bank, while another four deaths were recorded in Gaza. East Jerusalem recorded only two deaths.

A total of 4,496 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period, with the exclusion of East Jerusalem. In the Gaza Strip, 509 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 270 new cases. East Jerusalem had 815 new cases.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 237 patients of COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, of whom 104 are in intensive care, including 36 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 95.4 percent, while active cases declined to 3.7 percent. Deaths stood at 0.9 percent of total infections.
