Omicron wave in Palestine seems to be significantly receding

RAMALLAH, Friday, February 18, 2022 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 2,545 new cases of COVID-19, 13 deaths and 5,216 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24 hours.

These latest figures indicate a significant  downward trend in the fifth wave in Palestine which was fueled by the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said eight deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the West Bank, while another five deaths were recorded in Gaza.

A total of 7,215 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period, with the exclusion of East Jerusalem. In the Gaza Strip, 1,063 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 542 new cases. East Jerusalem had 940 new cases.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 267 patients of COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, of whom 121 are in intensive care, including 43 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 91.9 percent, while active cases reached 7.2 percent. Deaths stood at 0.9 percent of total infections.
