Premier Shtayyeh calls on Germany to recognize State of Palestine

RAMALLAH, Friday, February 11, 2022 (WAFA) – Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh Thursday evening called on Germany to recognize the State of Palestine.

Speaking during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Ramallah, Shtayyeh reiterated the call for Germany to inject energy into the long-stalled peace process and preserve the two-state solution through recognizing the State of Palestine.

He renewed his call for Germany to put pressure on Israel to respect all signed agreements, so that the peace process can be put back on the right track, while stressing that in order for the peace process to succeed, it is essential to put in place clear agreed-upon terms of reference, adopt confidence-building measures, and have an honest peace broker and a clear agreed-upon timeframe.

He blamed the deteriorating political and economic situation on the ongoing Israeli occupation authorities’ actions, including severe movement restrictions through the complex combination of checkpoints, daily raids, ongoing Gaza siege, and separating Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank.
