Weather forecast: Unseasonably very cold conditions, rainfall expected

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 (WAFA) – Weather today is clear to partly cloudy and unseasonably very cold, particularly in the mountains with a rise in temperature, which approaches 4°C below the seasonal average, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Occasional rain showers along with isolated thunderstorms are expected, starting in the north and gradually spreading to the center. Chance of frost is still expected in most areas in the early morning hours. Light to moderate southwesterly wind blows in daytime, while moderate to active southwesterly wind blows in the night. Sea waves are medium to high.

A low pressure is set to affect the region on Wednesday, causing temperature to drop to 7°C below the seasonal average and paving the way to partly cloudy to cloudy and unseasonably very cold conditions. Sporadic rain showers, which could be torrential, along with occasional thunderstorms and hail are expected, with the chance of rain tapering off towards the night. Snow flurries are expected on high mountain peaks with wind gusts of 70 km/h.

Thursday’s temperature is set to rise, paving the way to partly cloudy to clear and unseasonably very cold conditions. The chance remains for sporadic light rain showers on some districts in the morning hours.

A further rise is expected in temperature on Friday, with clear to partly cloudy and unseasonably very cold conditions, particularly in the mountains. Frost is expected in frost-prone areas in the morning hours.

PMD warns people against frost formation in the early morning of Monday, slippery roads and low horizontal visibility.
