RAMALLAH, Sunday, May 23, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the Israeli police assault of dozens of activists in Shiekh Jarrah neighbourhood in occupied Jerusalem yesterday.
They said Israeli occupation forces assaulted dozens of protesters demonstrating yesterday at the entrance to the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah to demand an end to Israel’s lockdown of the neighborhood.
On a different subject, the dailies said President Mahmoud Abbas received yesterday at the Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah the Egyptian security delegation which visited the Gaza Strip on Friday in an effort to reinforce the fragile ceasefire.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from the Emir of Kuwait, Nawaf Al‑Ahmad Al‑Jaber Al‑Sabah, and discussed with him the latest developments in Palestine, including the efforts for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said port workers at the South African seaport of Durban refused to offload cargo from the Israeli Zim Shinghai which docked in Durban harbour on Thursday in a show of sympathy for the Palestinian victims of the recent aggression.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Senwar, made yesterday his first public appearance after the end of the Israeli aggression on the coastal enclave amid Israeli threats to assassinate him.
Al-Ayyam said more pro-Palestinian rallies were held yesterday in many countries around the world in a show of support for the Palestinian people in the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Al-Quds said thousands demonstrated in central London yesterday in support of the Palestinian people and in protest of the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the Israeli occupation army shut down yesterday the entrance to the village of Deir Nidham in the occupied West Bank province of Ramallah.
