RAMALLAH, Friday, April 9, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 2,418 new Covid-19 cases and 33 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.
She announced that 2,418 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 33 others died of it in the occupied territories.
Among the new 2,418 cases, 745 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 1,673 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In the West Bank, Nablus district was ranked the first with (174) cases, followed by Jenin (170) cases, Ramallah & al-Bireh (81) cases, Tulkarm (77) cases, Hebron (65) cases, Jerusalem city (40) cases, Bethlehem district (36) cases, Qalqiliya (33) cases, Tubas (30) cases, Salfit (25) cases, Jericho & the Jordan Valley (8) cases in addition to six cases in Jerusalem suburbs.
Al-Kaileh identified the deaths as 22 deaths from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and 11 others from the besieged Gaza Strip.
In terms of the number of deaths, Nablus district was ranked the first among the West Bank districts with seven deaths, followed by Jenin, which had four deaths, Qalqiliya and Hebron, each district of which recorded three deaths, Jerusalem city and Ramallah & al-Bireh, each of which had two deaths in addition to Bethlehem, which recorded one death.
She added that 2,026 Covid-19 patients recovered; 1,434 recovery cases in the West Bank and 592 others in the Gaza Strip. Among the West Bank recovery cases, 138 cases were confirmed in Jerusalem city.
She pointed that 190 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 54 who are connected to ventilators, while 583 others are currently hospitalized across the West Bank.
Recoveries account for 88.0 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 10.9 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 140,032 people have received the vaccine so far, including 12,471 people who received the second dose of the vaccine.
