RAMALLAH, Tuesday, March 30, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Malki, today briefed via video conference his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto on the latest developments related to the ongoing preparations for the holding of Palestinian elections.
Malki called on the international community, particularly the European Union, to pressure Israel to allow Palestinians in Jerusalem to participate in the general elections as an essential condition to holding the elections, which he stressed is an acquired right that has been exercised by the Palestinian people in previous elections.
For his part, Haavisto affirmed Finland's support for the establishment of an independent and contiguous Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and its continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
The two ministers agreed on joint actions in the framework of confronting the climate change phenomenon and the environmental change within a regional and international effort and the continuation of coordination in all aspects to serve the common agenda and peace in the region and the world.
