JERUSALEM, March 29, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestinian factions today stressed the inalienable rights of Palestinians in Jerusalem to participate in the upcoming general elections.

The factions said in a press statement that Palestinian Jerusalemites have the inalienable right to “effectively participate in the democratic process through casting their votes and run for elections as candidates using ballot boxes in the Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine.”

They added that the Palestinian Jerusalemites’ right to take part in long-awaited general elections as a “non-negotiable” and “inviolable” right that could not be the subject of any compromise.

They described the legislative elections as an “advanced form of the Palestinian national struggle” given that Jerusalem and the Jerusalemites “lie at the core of the conflict with the Israeli occupation”.

They called the Central Elections Commission to assume its responsibilities in terms of completing the electoral register and ensuring that the Jerusalemite constituency cast their ballots at polling stations in the city, while rejecting any alternatives that “undermine the Palestinian national sovereignty” in the city.
