RAMALLAH, Saturday, February 13, 2021 (WAFA) – With the drive for national elections in Palestine proceed at full force and as planned, and as voter registration, which has reached 92 percent of the total eligible voters, is about to close, Fatah’s top decision-making body, the Central Committee, is scheduled to meet tonight to discuss the latest developments.

Fatah Central Committee member and its secretary, Jibril Rjoub, who has been heading Fatah's reconciliation talks with the Islamic Hamas movement, said the meeting tonight, which will be headed by the movement’s chairman, President Mahmoud Abbas, is going to discuss the latest developments related to the national dialogue recently held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and its outcome.

Fourteen Palestinian factions that met in Cairo on February 8, including Fatah and Hamas, agreed to proceed with the elections as scheduled and to do everything in their power to hold successful legislative elections, planned for May 22, and presidential elections, planned for July 31. Elections for the Palestinian National Council, the parliament in exile, will be held on August 31.

The Fatah Central Committee is also expected to discuss the formation of the list that would run in the legislative elections, particularly after the meeting of its member Hussein al-Sheikh, held on Thursday, with incarcerated Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five life terms in Israel for resisting the occupation. The meeting, held to coordinate and unity Fatah’s strategy for the elections, took place in the prison where Barghouti is held.
