RAMALLAH, Saturday, January 02, 2021 (WAFA) – The Israeli army shooting and injuring of dozens of Palestinians, one of them critically, who were protesting Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam said in its main front-page story headline that dozens were injured, one of the critical, in the Israeli army crackdown on the Friday protests, and trees were uprooted.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also said dozens were injured, one of them shot at point-blank, by the occupation army’s bullets and teargas. It said settlers attacked herders, destroyed trees, and attacked Khan al-Lubban.
Al-Quds said the Israeli occupation authorities have approved the construction of a park for the settlers in occupied Jerusalem that will lead to the appropriation of hundreds of dunums of Palestinian land.
The top front-page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida touched on remarks by President Mahmoud Abbas marking the anniversary of the launch of the Palestinian revolution against the Israeli occupation.
It quoted him saying that the hour of freedom is inevitably coming and that the launch of the revolution changed the dark course of the 1948 Nakba into that of hope in the ability of the Palestinian people to achieve their goals in freedom and independence.
Al-Quds quoted him saying that the new generation is carrying the torch of the revolution with faith.
Al-Ayyam said the President has also pardoned convicts on the occasion of the revolution anniversary.
Coronavirus and its toll was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies, which said that 18 people have died in Palestine yesterday after contracting the disease and 1450 new cases were recorded.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the corona emergency committee is going to meet today to decide on the next steps in fighting the spread of the disease in Palestine.
Al-Quds said ill Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have appealed to save their lives from coronavirus.
The three papers also reported on the virus in the region and the world.
Al-Quds said Israeli tourists stole towels, pots and bans, and lambs from Dubai hotels.
It also said that Morocco is delaying normalization with Israel awaiting the position of the US President-elect Joe Biden from the Sahara and the Palestinian issues.
Al-Ayyam said the US and Israel stood alone against the world in voting at the United Nations General Assembly against the UN budget.
