RAMALLAH, Monday, November 30, 2020 (WAFA) – News about the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and King Abdullah II of Jordan hit the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that President Abbas discussed on Sunday with King Abdullah II during the meeting that took place in the Jordanian Red Sea port city of Aqaba the latest developments in the Palestinian cause as well as a number of issues of common interest.
The dailies also quoted remarks by Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh in which he said that the government is preparing a three-year economic recovery plan and to face the political implications, as reported in al-Quds daily.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Shtayyeh saying that the river of freedom will not go dry until the independent Palestinian state is established and the refugee return to their homes.
The same newspaper highlighted the burial of Noor Shuqeir in Jerusalem after Israel returned his body to his family. Shuqeir was shot and killed last Wednesday by Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint east of Jerusalem claiming he attempted a car-ramming attack, which apparently was a false claim.
The three dailies said that an Israeli bulldozer on Sunday demolished the stairway leading to Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem’s old city under the pretext that it was used to transfer equipment to al-Yousifiya Islamic cemetery, located just outside the wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Ayyam said that dozens of people participated in an activity at al-Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem, against Israeli takeover of the land.
It said the Israeli High Court gave the government until July to explain why it did not yet destroy the Palestinian community in al-Khan al-Ahmar, where Israel intends to build another illegal settlement.
The papers reported that Minister of Health Mai Alkaila announced on Sunday that 1927 new coronavirus infections, 16 deaths and 957 recoveries were recorded in Palestine during the last 24 hours.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said former member of Fatah Central Committee, Hakam Balawi, was buried in his hometown.
Al-Quds and Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas received a telegram from his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
