RAMALLAH, Saturday, November 14, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted different local and international issues on their front page.
Al-Ayyam highlighted in its main front-page story the Israeli army crackdown on the weekly Friday protests against settlements and the occupation policies in the occupied territories. It said many were injured in the crackdown.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the telegrams and messages President Mahmoud Abbas continues to receive for the Declaration of Independence, which coincides tomorrow, and in mourning of Saeb Erekat, the Palestine Liberation Organization official who died on Tuesday.
It said President Abbas received congratulatory messages on his 84th birthday from Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Al-Quds daily highlighted the win of US President-elect Joe Biden in Arizona and said this cements his victory in the US elections against Donald Trump.
It added in sidebar stories about what is happening in the US in light of the elections.
The paper also said outgoing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is going to visit an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that Pompeo’s visit is legalizing settlements.
It also quoted US analysts saying that Trump will speed up Israel’s annexation of the West Bank before Biden takes over in the White House.
Al-Ayyam said the United Nations has criticized Pompeo’s visit to the Israeli settlement saying it is illegal.
It said the Israeli occupation authorities prevented thousands of Muslims from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the Friday prayers.
The paper quoted a spokesman for the European Union office in Jerusalem saying the EU hopes the crisis of the clearance tax funds Israel owes the Palestinians will be resolved soon.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the visit of the Bulgarian foreign minister to Palestine and her meeting with Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and Foreign Minister Riyad Malki.
Coronavirus at home, the region, and the world was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies.
