Shtayyeh discusses latest political developments with Norwegian foreign minister

RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 12, 2020 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh discussed during a phone call with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ine Marie Eriksen, the latest political developments, and arrangements for the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee meeting (AHLC) scheduled to be held early next year in Oslo.

Shtayyeh reviewed the PA’s financial needs in light of the difficult circumstances facing it, calling on Norway to play an active political role in supporting the two-state solution after the so-called US deal of the century was taken off the table as a result of the Palestinian persistence and the Arab and international support, and now with the presence of a new US administration.

Shtayyeh affirmed the position of president of Mahmoud Abbas and leadership to prepare for any political effort to launch a serious and real political path based on the international law and UN resolutions, particularly if it is within a multilateral framework at an international conference involving international powers.

For her part, The Norwegian foreign affairs minister conveyed her condolences to the Palestinian leadership over the death of longtime chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, who passed away on Wednesday after contacting Covid-19, considering his death a loss for the peace camp.

She further stressed Norway’s interest to support and strengthen the political process based on the two-state solution and respect of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
