Newspapers Review: A mid-day Israeli army raid of Amari refugee camp in Ramallah focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, October 12, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their front page today a mid-day Israeli army raid of Amari refugee camp in Ramallah, as well as other Israeli occupation measures against the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

The papers said dozens of people were injured in clashes with the invading soldiers during the unusual mid-day raid of Amari refugee camp.

Al-Ayyam said Israel issued land grab orders against hundreds of dunums of Palestinian land east of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem for settlement purposes after rezoning Palestinian villages in the area.

Al-Quds said in its main front-page story that protests and rallies were held in several Palestinian cities in solidarity with hunger-striking prisoner in Israel, Maher al-Akhras, who, according to al-Hayat al-Jadida has completed 77 days of fast in protest against his administrative detention.

The three dailies also reported on the latest developments with the coronavirus pandemic in Palestine, the region and the world and said that three people have died of the disease in the West Bank yesterday and 422 new cases were recorded.

Al-Quds said East Jerusalem recorded four deaths and 10 new cases, while 66 deaths and 694 new cases were confirmed in Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said 10 deaths and 923 new cases were recorded in Jordan.

The daily also said that the Palestinian Prime Minister’s office has announced a $5.7 million financial aid for East Jerusalem from the Kuwaiti development fund to support health, culture, development and education projects.

It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying during an olive picking event near Ramallah that the conspiracies against the Palestinian people will never pass.

Al-Quds quoted Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouq saying that Moscow has offered to host the next meeting of the heads of the Palestinian political factions.
