Newspapers Review: Fayyad’s Statements’ on Financial Crisis Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, September 8, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian dailies Saturday highlighted Prime Minister Salam Fayyad stressing the government’s continuous efforts to overcome the recent prices' increase and economic hardship.

Al-Quds quoted Fayyad saying, “The financial situation is very hard and we are doing our best to alleviate prices' hike,” affirming his willingness to resign if that was the solution to the problem.

Al-Ayyam reported on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims that President Mahmoud Abbas’ refusal to resume negotiations with Israel is the main reason behind the Palestinian Authority’s financial hardship.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam printed photos of Palestinians participating in the weekly demonstrations in the villages of Kurf Qaddum and Nabi Saleh, in the west Bank.

Al-Ayyam reported that tens of Palestinians and international activists were injured and arrested during the demonstrations.

Al-Quds front page headline read: “Dispute over a military strike on Iran increases.”

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, stating “if the cabinet deems it needed, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) can conquer and rule Gaza.”
