Israeli authorities resume demolition of homes in Al-Sir village in the Negev

RAMALLAH, April 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities on Sunday demolished residential structures in the unrecognized Arab village of Al-Sir in the Negev, south of the 1948 territory, citing lack of building permits.

Local reports said bulldozers and machinery under police protection carried out the demolitions early in the morning, targeting homes in the unrecognized village.

Authorities had previously demolished around 320 out of 350 homes in December 2025, leaving hundreds of families homeless and living in harsh conditions in makeshift tents amid flooding, and a lack of electricity and basic infrastructure.

Reports indicate that demolitions in the village have since resumed in phases, including the destruction of dozens of additional homes in separate raids, accompanied by a heavy police presence and the use of force against residents.
