Egypt Commends Abbas Effort in Palestinian Dialogue

CAIRO, November 11, 2008, (WAFA)- Spokesman of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Husam Zaki, commended, Monday the efforts exerted by President Mahmoud Abbas in the Palestinian national dialogue.

In a press release published Monday in Cairo, Zaki said that, “President Abbas clearly supported the Egyptian efforts and the Egyptian Initiative for Palestinian dialogue, while Hamas and other parties boycotted the dialogue, in a step that must be carefully analyzed.”

He added that League of Arab States was invited to participate in the dialogue and pursue its implementation, and had a very important role in its conduction. However, he did not specify whether there was a coming step in pursuing the talks, he said, “the Egyptian statement issued on this matter strongly implies that the dialogue will be pursued when the necessary political will exists.”

He noted that the Quartet meeting held in Sharm Al-Sheikh, Monday aimed at making use of the transitional period in US and Israel, not to waste peace opportunities.
