Child and young man injured in attack by colonists in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron

HEBRON, April 11, 2026 (WAFA) – A child and a young man were injured on Saturday evening in an attack carried out by Israeli colonists in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, according to local sources.

Anti-settlement activist Osama Makhamreh told WAFA that colonists stormed the village of al-Tuba in Masafer Yatta, attacking residents and using pepper spray at close range, which caused a young man to suffer suffocation symptoms. He added that a five-year-old child, Awad Khalil Awad, sustained head injuries and bruises after being pushed to the ground during the assault. Both were treated on site.

He said colonists also stole several sheep belonging to a local resident, identified as Omar Mohammad Abu Jundiya.

Makhamreh added that colonists also attacked farmers in the Ashkareh area south of the nearby town of Yatta, chasing them while under the protection of Israeli forces, who fired stun grenades and tear gas toward homes in the area.

He further reported that soldiers detained two Palestinian residents after assaulting them, breaking their phones, and confiscating their devices, while another resident also had his phone destroyed during the incident.

Separately, local sources said Israeli forces stormed the town of Dura south of Hebron, where they beat a child, causing bruises, and fired tear gas and stun grenades at residents during the raid.

According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, colonists and Israeli forces carried out a total of 1,819 attacks in March, in a systematic escalation of violence against Palestinians and their property.

The commission reported 1,322 attacks by Israeli forces and 497 by colonists, with the highest concentration recorded in Hebron (321), followed by Nablus (315), Ramallah and Al-Bireh (292), and Jerusalem (203).
