AMMAN, April 12, 2026 (WAFA) – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir under the protection of Israeli occupation police, describing it as a blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo and a desecration of the holy site.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s firm rejection and strong condemnation of the continued incursions led by Ben-Gvir, as well as the facilitation of such actions by Israeli police, calling them provocative and inciting measures aimed at imposing new realities in the mosque, including attempts to divide it temporally and spatially.
He warned of the consequences of the ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over the city or its sanctities.
Al-Majali called on the international community to take a firm stance to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its violations and provocative actions, as well as its unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.
He reaffirmed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, covering 144 dunums, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the sole authority responsible for its administration and access arrangements.
