SHARM EL-SHEIKH, June 30, 2008, (WAFA)-President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday that negotiations with the Israeli side have achieved no progress yet and Israel continues its aggressive policy against our people such as settlements and Judizing Jerusalem, siege, arrests and restriction on movements.
During a speech before the eleventh Summit of African Union Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh , President added that we are struggling for a legitimate right which is independence and the establishment of a Palestinian state , with Jerusalem as its capital on the Palestinian territories which occupied in 1967 as well as reaching a just and agreed upon a solution for the refugees issue in accordance with the UN resolution 194.
' We are exerting efforts to end the division in the Palestinian arena and start a dialogue that unifies the capacities of our people on the bases of respecting our commitments and international agreements under a system that respects political pluralism but it refuses pluralistic groups and armed militias under any pretext,' President added.
President also said that we will benefit from qualitative important achievement made by Egypt under leadership of President Mubarak, namely the calm with Israel, and saved Gaza from a terrible massacre, which provided the atmosphere needed to move forward in peace efforts with Israel.
President Abbas pointed out that the Palestinian people are proud of African solidarity with the Palestinian cause since the birth of the Organization of African Unity.
