Israeli authorities force Palestinian to demolish his home in Silwan, Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, April 11, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Saturday forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish his own home in the neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without a permit.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, the home of Mohammed Shehda Qweider in the al-Bustan quarter was built in 2012 and measures around 100 square meters, housing him, his wife, and their six children. Authorities also imposed fines of approximately 60,000 shekels, with about 25,000 shekels still outstanding.

Earlier the same day, three brothers from the al-Tahan family were also forced to demolish their homes in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood of Silwan under similar conditions, facing heavy fines and the threat of forced demolition.

Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem are frequently compelled to demolish their own homes to avoid higher penalties and demolition costs imposed by Israeli authorities, a policy local officials describe as part of broader efforts to pressure and displace Palestinian families in the city.
