PPC: Israeli Prisons Administration Exploits Prisoners and Families Financially
TULKAREM, March 24, 2007, (WAFA)-Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC), in Tulkarem, said that the Israeli prisons administration have launched an organised and deliberate campaign of financially exploitation against the prisoners and their families.
In a statement, PPC added that Israeli prisons administrations, through the conversion of several central jails into commercial centers, aimed at profiteering first and foremost.
The PPC revealed that ,canteen, inside prisons, turned into profit centers and selling commodity at high price.
Head Club in Tulkarem, Halima Armilat said that the family members were suffering during a trip to visit their children, the Israeli military courts and the judiciary are stripped parents financially, through imposing heavy fines on the prisoners who face great difficulty in providing such large amounts of the fines, which were sometimes more than ten thousand (NIC)shekels and the least one thousand and five hundred shekels, in addition to the amounts of bail material deposited in the accounts of Israeli courts until trial time.
Armilat added that the journey to visit inside the prison is a material trap for these impoverished families, where the laws of the central prisons administration do not allow these families to bring something inside, unless were purchased from the prison canteen, such as cigarettes, coffee, cleaning materials and cold beverages.
Armilat called upon international human rights institutions to intervene and stop the policy of exploitation of prisoners, which violates all international norms and laws.
