Abbas: Israeli Withdrawal Important Step, But Not Enough
GAZA, September 12, 2005 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday that the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip is an important step, but not enough... Speaking to reporters, President Abbas said his feelings are like every Palestinian lived under occupation for long decades.... He added that today is a day of happiness for the Palestinian people, wishing that this will be a happy incident for all Palestinian everywhere.... "What we need is an independent viable Palestinian state, territorially integrated," Abbas stated.... He asserted that the Israelis left the Gaza Strip, but didn't end their occupation of the Palestinian land as they still control the sea, air, borders and crossings.... Asked about the issue of keeping the Jewish synagogues, President Abbas said the Israeli army didn't leave behind any synagogues but they left partially destroyed buildings.... A.D.
