President Abbas meets Arab ambassadors in Beirut, urges immediate action to end Gaza war

BEIRUT, May 22, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Thursday evening with Arab ambassadors accredited to Lebanon at his residence in Beirut, as part of his three-day official visit to the country.

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the ambassadors on the dire situation in the Palestinian territories amid the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on Gaza. He also briefed the ambassadors on the escalating violence by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank, including in Jerusalem.

The President emphasized the urgent need to end the Israeli aggression, halt the war of extermination, and allow immediate entry of humanitarian aid — including food, water, medicine, and fuel — into the Gaza Strip. He also reiterated the State of Palestine's readiness to assume its responsibilities in facilitating the return of displaced people, reconstruction efforts, and restoration of services.

President Abbas spoke about ongoing efforts with Arab and international partners to prepare for the upcoming International Peace Conference scheduled for June in New York. The goal of the conference is to rally support for full recognition of the State of Palestine and secure its full membership in the United Nations, paving the way for a political process to end the Israeli occupation and establish a state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also updated the ambassadors on the outcomes of his visit to Lebanon, including discussions aimed at strengthening Palestinian-Lebanese relations, addressing the issue of weapons in the refugee camps, improving living conditions for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, rebuilding refugee camps, and supporting Palestinian students in Lebanese universities through the Mahmoud Abbas Foundation.
