Palestinian Leadership: Establishing a Palestinian State in 2005 More Realistic


RAMALLAH, May 9, 2004, (WAFA) - The Palestinian Leadership reiterated Saturday that establishing a Palestinian state in 2005 is more than realistic in spite of all the Israeli maneuvers which aim at devastating the peace process.... In a meeting held in Ramallah of the PLO Executive Committee and the representatives of various Palestinian organizations headed by President Yasser Arafat, the Leadership confirmed its commitment to a just and comprehensive peace and to the US-backed Road Map peace plan.... It also called on the UN Security Council and the Quartet Committee to shoulder responsibility regarding reviving the peace process through following up the implementation of the signed agreements.... Concerning the latest US remarks on Israel's withdrawal plan from the Gaza Strip, the Leadership called on the US Administration to reconsider the absolute support for Sharon's plans which only aim at destroying the peace process in the region.... The Leadership reiterated the necessity to face the construction of the Israeli Apartheid Wall which hinders the establishment of a Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital, calling for unveiling the Israeli government's practices through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague.... The Leadership called for the implementation of the Road Map and setting up a committing and clear timetable for ending this "bitter occupation" in accordance with President Bush's vision based on all related international resolutions....
