RAMALLAH, Tuesday, May 19, 2020 (WAFA) – The new coronavirus cases recorded in the southern West Bank village of Beit Aula over the last two days and preparations by the Palestinian leadership to confront Israeli plans to annex occupied Palestinian territory were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds highlighted the corona cases in Beit Aula on their front page, while al-Hayat al-Jadida had this topic lower on its front page.
The main front page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on the meeting for Fatah Central Committee in Ramallah last night which discussed the political developments and called for preparation to face the coming period, according to the headline.
The other two dailies also reported on the Fatah meeting while al-Quds highlighted as a top front-page story remarks by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying at the cabinet meeting that the Palestinian leadership is going to take important decisions in its meeting today regarding the Israeli annexation plans.
The three papers also highlighted Israeli measures in the occupied territories, including raids and arrests, and destroying agricultural land.
They also said that an Israel court has convicted a settler of murdering the Palestinian Dawabshe family five years ago but that the ruling will be issued next month. The murderer threw fire bombs into the Dawabshe home in the village of Duma burning to death the father, Saad, mother, Riham, and their 18-month-old son, Ali.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a picture of the only surviving member of the Dawabshe family, Ahmad, 10, who suffered serious burns all over his body.
The papers reported on plans by extremist Israeli settlers to take part in a human chain in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday marking the 1967 occupation of the city and warned of the implications and impact of this on security and life of Palestinians in the city.
They also said that the government has announced that the end of Ramadan Eid al-Fitr holiday starts from Saturday through Tuesday of next week.
