Newspapers Review: Israeli forces shoot dead Palestinian at a northern West Bank checkpoint

RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 19, 2019 (WAFA) – The shooting and killing of a young Palestinian at a northern West Bank Israeli army checkpoint last night was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The papers said in their main front page story that Raad Bahri, 25, from the village of Kufr Zeibad was shot dead at a checkpoint south of Tulkarm. They said he was left on the ground bleeding while Palestinian ambulances were not allowed by the soldiers to provide him with urgent medical care. He was pronounced dead by the Israeli army shortly after.

The three papers also said in their main front page story that dozens of Palestinians were injured from Israeli army gunfire and rubber bullets in the weekly protests on the Gaza border with Israel and in several West Bank villages.

Al-Ayyam said Israeli soldiers and settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting their olive crops in several villages in the north of the West Bank and they prevented them from proceeding with the harvest.

It also said the Israeli army closed a main road in the north of the occupied West Bank for Palestinian commuters so that Jewish settlers can march freely on that road.

The paper also said Palestinians in Israel are continuing to demonstrate against violence in their communities and police failure to deal with it.

Al-Quds quoted Adnan Husseini, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), welcoming a UNESCO decision on Jerusalem and its historic wall while condemning Israeli measures in the occupied holy city.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Fatah movement has called for the removal of all signs in Hebrew in Izzariyeh, east of Jerusalem, and replace them with signs in Arabic.

It said Israel is stealing Ein al-Hinniyeh water spring from the residents of Walaja village, south of Jerusalem.

The three Palestinian dailies highlighted as well the situation in Lebanon and in northern Syria with the Turkish military operation and the political developments in Washington.
