RAMALLAH, Monday, October 21, 2019 (WAFA) - The Palestinian cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, during its weekly meeting held in Ramallah, held the Israeli government fully responsible for Israeli police attacks on worshippers at al-Aqsa mosque, and the continued storming of the mosque’s compound by Israeli settlers in a flagrant and systematic violation that contradicts the freedom of worship and the protection of religious places.
Shtayyeh warned that the Israeli escalation at al-Aqsa mosque could turn the political conflict into religious strife.
He further condemned settlers ‘attacks on farmers and preventing them from reaching their land to harvest their olive crops, calling on the international community and Arab and Islamic countries to shoulder their responsibilities to stop the occupation and settlers’ encroachment over Palestinians lands and to ensure the international protection of the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
The cabinet also discussed mechanisms for establishing a joint economic committee and a Saudi-Palestinian business council, which came in light of the visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to Saudi Arabia, in order to strengthen the historical bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the economic fields.
The cabinet reviewed efforts carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates at the international level, and with international organizations and the Human Rights Council on the issues of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, in particular the issue of prisoners on hunger strike.
