Arab Parliament condemns Ben-Gvir's incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

CAIRO, July 23, 2026 (WAFA) — Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi condemned the incursion by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound alongside thousands of Israeli colonists, the raising of the Israeli flag, and the prevention of Muslim worshippers from entering the site.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Al Yamahi described the actions as a flagrant violation of the historic and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as of international law and relevant international resolutions.

He said the repeated incursions have evolved into a plan aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the mosque, entrenching temporal and spatial division, and erasing its Arab and Islamic identity as part of broader efforts to Judaize occupied Jerusalem and impose a new reality by force.

Al Yamahi said the actions constitute a serious assault on Islamic holy sites and a provocation to the sentiments of more than two billion Muslims worldwide, warning that they could have dangerous consequences for regional and international security and stability.

He added that the continued protection provided by the Israeli government for such incursions, their expansion, and the permission granted for religious rituals inside the mosque demonstrate what he described as Israel's determination to undermine the historic and legal status of Islamic holy sites and its disregard for United Nations resolutions and international law, calling for a firm international response beyond statements of condemnation.
