AMAN, July 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned on Thursday the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by the extremist Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, along with several Knesset members and hundreds of extremist colonists, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.
The Ministry also condemned all accompanying actions, including attacks on worshippers, provocative behavior by extremists and police, the raising of Israeli flags, and incitement by extremist groups.
It considered such actions as a blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a desecration of the mosque's sanctity, a reprehensible escalation, and an unacceptable act of barbarity and provocation.
In a statement, Ambassador Fouad Majali, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed Jordan's absolute rejection and condemnation of the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli ministers, Knesset members, and extremist colonists, facilitated by the Israeli occupation police.
He described such actions as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, a clear transgression against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, and a reckless and unacceptable act aimed at imposing a new reality at Al-Aqsa by attempting to divide it temporally and spatially.
He warned of the consequences of the continued incursions and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites and the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy places, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He called on the international community to take a firm stance that compels Israel, as the occupying power, to cease its ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and all provocative practices by Israeli officials and extremists, which constitute a continuation of the Israeli government's policy of escalating the dangerous situation in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Majali reiterated that the entire 144-dunum area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the sole legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif and regulating entry to it.
