BRUSSELS, September 2, 2018 (WAFA) - The European Union (EU) pledged to continue supporting UNRWA following US decision to end all funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
“The EU is committed to secure the continuation and sustainability of the agency’s work which is vital for stability and security in the region," said a statement issued by the EU on Saturday.
The EU slammed the U.S. decision as a ‘regrettable’ decision which leaves a substantial gap in the agency‘s funding.
The statement added: "many others in the international community, including many Arab states, have pledged their support to the continuity of the work that UNRWA is doing.”
On 31 August, the United States announced that it will provide no additional funding to UNRWA
