1,094 coronavirus cases, 55 deaths among diaspora Palestinians


RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 26, 2020 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry said today that the number of confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases among Palestinians in the diaspora has risen to 1094, and the deaths to 55.

In the United States, the ministry said one Palestinian expatriate died from the novel coronavirus during the past 24 hours, while at least three Palestinian in the country have tested positive for the disease, raising the total confirmed cases among Palestinian expatriates in the country to 644.

In Austria, the Palestinian embassy said 10 more Palestinian expatriates in the country have tested positive for the novel virus, raising the total cases to 14, including three recoveries and one death.

In Belgium, the Palestinian embassy said at least two Palestinians in the country were tested positive for coronavirus, bringing up the total cases among the Palestinian community in the country to 84.

In Luxemburg, the ministry said one Palestinians has been infected with COVID-19 (coronavirus) so far.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministry said in a statement that Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Maliki has been closely following up the issue of hundreds of Palestinian nationals and students in several countries, who have gone stranded as a result of the pandemic and the ensuing shutdown of airports and border crossings. 

It said the ministerial committee formed by the Council of Ministers to look into this issue held its first meeting, where they brainstormed a preliminary vision for a safe and transparent action plan to secure the return of Palestinians stranded in many countries to their homeland.
