Israel weighing barring newly-elected Muslim US congresswomen from entering Israel

JERUSALEM, Thursday, August 15, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities is weighing a decision  to bar newly-elected Muslim US congresswomen; Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib and Somali-American Ilhan Omar, from entering Israel ahead of an expected visit during the next week.

The decision to bar the two Democratic congresswomen, who are the first Muslim women to win  seats in the US Congress,  was proposed by Israeli minister of interior and was referred to the legal authorities for ratification before being officially announced, according to the Israeli TV channel 2.

The newly-elected Muslim Democratic members of Congress are outspoken critics of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and support the boycott movement against Israel.

Tlaib was born in Detroit after her parents immigrated to the US. Her father was born in Beit Hanina, a neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, and her mother was born in Beit Ur El Foka, north of the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Omar was born in Somalia and immigrated to the United States as a refugee.
