Newspapers Review: Israeli army murder of volunteer health worker focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 28, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli army murder of a young Palestinian volunteer health worker while doing his job in Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem early yesterday was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

The health worker, Sajed Mezher, 17, was shot and critically injured while attending to fellow camp residents shot by the Israeli army. He later succumbed to his wounds.

The papers also reported on the situation in Gaza, particularly the night protests on the border with Israel and calls for a million-person protest on Saturday marking Land Day and the first anniversary for the launch of the March of Return protests.

Al-Quds made a story about the so-called deal of the century its main front page story. It quoted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo telling Congress that the deal of the century is different from previous plans.

This was reported in al-Ayyam as well, which, in an early morning story, reported on the Israeli strike in Syria.

Al-Ayyam also said the European Union stressed that the Golan Heights are occupied territory and not Israeli.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted remarks by President Mahmoud Abbas after meeting a delegation from the Palestine Investment Fund, saying he stressed the importance of job creation for young Palestinians.

It also quoted Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, saying that the division must end to face the dangerous plots against the Palestinian cause.

It also said the Israel Prison Service in the Naqab prison is giving internal trials for prisoners and imposing fines on them.

It said the governor of Nablus has called for ending the discussion on social media over the firing of the director of Najah University hospital.
