EU chief says bloc does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan

BRUSSELS, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 (WAFA) – Unlike the United States, the European Union said today that it does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights Israel occupied from Syria in June 1967.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini made it clear in a statement that it does not agree with the step by US President Donald Trump when he recognized on Monday Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan.

“The position of the European Union as regards the status of the Golan Heights has not changed,” said Mogherini. “In line with the international law and UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 497, the European Union does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.”
